Jamie Farrugia is a recent graduate from the Department of Art and Art History and a former vice-president of HoASA (The History of Art and Fine Arts Students’ Association) and has a background in sciences. Her undergraduate dissertation focused on the case study of Antonello Gagini’s Madonna and Child at Ta’ Ġieżu church in Rabat. Her contributions involved an art-historical assessment of the commission, analysing the context, patrons, as well as comparisons to Gagini’s artistic œuvre, and the construction of a hypothetical digital reconstruction following an in-depth investigation of the technical data extrapolated from diagnostic tests.
Following her undergraduate studies, Farrugia worked for several months as an intern in the Paintings’ Conservation Division of Heritage Malta and as a technical assistant in the restoration and conservation works carried out in the Armoury at the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta. During the past year she has furthered her studies on the Gagini family of sculptors within the Maltese and Sicilian context at postgraduate level. She is presently a full-time student reading for a Master of Science in Conservation at the University of Malta with the intention of specializing on the conservation of Easel Paintings.
